How much will it cost?
The minimum share capital in Malta is of €1,200.00 per company, 20% of which must be paid upfront. There is also a disbursement fee of €320.00 payable to the required authorities.
Company registration fees must be paid to the Registry of Companies upon incorporation. The fees vary from €245.00 and are capped at €1,175.00. The fees depends on the value of authorised share capital. There is also an annual fee of minimum €100.00 to be paid with the submission of the Annual Returns.
If the company requires special licenses or permits to operate, the cost of those must also be taken into consideration.
One should also consider the cost of obtaining a premises and furnishing it, electronic equipment to carry out business, employing human capital, and other overhead expenses.
Getting funding.
When starting a business venture, one would have already saved up funds to start the business, however there is often the need for additional financial support. One can opt for a loan from a local bank, crowdfunding, or obtaining funding from private investors.
It is worthwhile to consider aids from Malta Enterprise, which issue schemes and grants available for a range of businesses operating in different sectors.
Opening a bank account.
Whether a bank account is needed or not depends on the nature of the business and its’ trading activities.
Obtaining insurance.
The type and extent of insurance will depend on the economic activity of the business.
Obtaining a PE number & human resources.
Once the business starts to grow, there will be the need for more human capital. First, the employer must obtain a PE number in order to hire staff and pay taxes on their behalf.
Company premises.
Acquiring the appropriate premises is important to provide a workplace for conducting business. There are several options for acquiring premises in Malta, such as purchasing premises or leases. Naturally, the type of premises will depend on the company size and the budget.
